Meta Pixel Plugin
The Meta Pixel plugin adds Facebook Pixel (now called Meta Pixel) tracking to your storefront. This enables conversion tracking for your Facebook and Instagram advertising campaigns.
What It Does
- Adds the Meta Pixel tracking code to the
<head>of all storefront pages - Automatically tracks PageView events on every page load
- Enables you to measure the effectiveness of your Facebook and Instagram ads
- Helps build custom audiences for retargeting
- Does not affect admin panel pages -- tracking is storefront-only
Requirements
- A Meta Business account (business.facebook.com)
- A Meta Pixel created in Meta Events Manager
- Your Pixel ID (a numeric ID like
1234567890)
Getting Your Pixel ID
- Go to Meta Events Manager
- Click Data Sources in the left sidebar
- Select your Pixel (or create a new one if you have not already)
- Your Pixel ID is displayed at the top of the page -- it is a string of numbers
TIP
If you do not have a Pixel yet, click Connect Data Sources in Events Manager, select Web, and follow the setup wizard to create one.
Setting Up the Plugin
- Go to Admin Panel > Plugins
- Find Meta Pixel and click Enable
- Click the Settings button
- Enter your Pixel ID in the field provided
- Click Save
| Setting | What to Enter |
|---|---|
| Pixel ID | Your Meta Pixel ID from Events Manager (e.g., 1234567890) |
Verifying It Works
After setting up the plugin:
- Install the Meta Pixel Helper Chrome extension (download here)
- Visit your storefront in Chrome
- Click the Pixel Helper extension icon in your toolbar
- You should see a green checkmark and a PageView event detected
Alternatively, check in Meta Events Manager:
- Go to Meta Events Manager
- Select your Pixel
- Click Test Events
- Open your storefront in a browser
- You should see events appear in the test events log
What Gets Tracked
With the plugin enabled, Meta Pixel automatically tracks:
- PageView -- fires on every page load across your storefront
This basic tracking enables:
- Custom Audiences -- retarget people who visited your store
- Lookalike Audiences -- find new potential customers similar to your visitors
- Ad Optimization -- Facebook can optimize ad delivery based on who visits your store
- Conversion measurement -- see how many people visit your store after seeing your ads
TIP
For more advanced tracking (like tracking purchases, add-to-cart events, or checkout events), you can set up custom conversions directly in Meta Events Manager using URL-based rules.
Using with Facebook and Instagram Ads
Once your Pixel is tracking visitors, you can:
- Create Custom Audiences in Meta Ads Manager based on people who visited your store
- Create Lookalike Audiences to find new customers similar to your visitors
- Set up Conversions to track specific actions (like visiting a "thank you" page after purchase)
- Optimize your ad campaigns by letting Facebook target people most likely to visit your store
